The story began in 2019. I was looking for a new sport to entertain me. Soccer? No, thanks. Surf? My hairs stand on end just imagining the icy seawater.
Beer! Then you say: "Beer isn't a sport". It depends. I can sit at a table with friends and talk about beer with the same passion that someone talks about soccer or a surfer about the sea.
I've always appreciated the craft beer movement, but I'd never thought about brewing beer, something only seemed possible in hands gifted by the God of Beer.
Mere mistake! Even though there are beers that are true nectar of the gods (and also those so bad that taste like a devil's juice), good beer is made by (and is about) people!
I started to study the topic, bought my first equipment, and took courage. In 2020, the first Gugz Beer was born, in Porto, with my friend Felipe on a long 15-hour brew day. After 30 days, it was time to try it: And to my surprise, my first beer tasted like... beer! The satisfaction of drinking the beer you made yourself is unique.
Then I never stopped. In 2021, my friend Lucas joined the adventure, always with something good to say and ideas to give. From then on, we made mistakes and got them right double. Brewing beer is also about that. Learn, invent, experiment, hit and miss (not necessarily in that order).
This is the most frequent question I hear. We are proud to say that our beer has no price, and has no customers. If our friends are happy, then we are happy. This is what moves us. Our beer is a good company on a night out to chat about the most random subjects that might exist, or to celebrate our day-to-day achievements. Gugz Beer has always been this. Made by friends, for friends.
